Sendo o último país da América do Sul a iniciar a vacinação contra a covid-19, o Uruguai já imunizou 33% da sua população. As autoridades uruguaias anunciaram nesta segunda feira, 19 de abril, que o governo já comprou vacinas suficientes para a população uruguaia — os imunizantes têm chegado aos poucos no país.
Atualmente, o Uruguai possui as vacinas Coronavac, da chinesa Sinovac, e Cominarty, das farmacêuticas Pfizer e BioNtech. Enquanto a primeira tem sido aplicada em grande parte da população, a segunda tem sido usada principalmente em profissionais da saúde e idosos acima de 60 anos.
O Uruguai começou a receber doses da vacina de Oxford-AstraZeneca, por meio do consórcio internacional Covax Facility, iniciativa ligada à Organização Mundial de Saúde (OMS) para distribuir imunizantes contra a covid-19.
Na primeira quinzena do mês de abril a campanha de imunização no Uruguai, imunizou todos os profissionais da saúde, policiais, professores e bombeiros. Agora, já chegou a juventude com mais de 18 anos. Quem também teve prioridade foram as pessoas de outros países como brasileiros com dupla cidadania que estavam nessa mesma faixa etária.
A imunização para a população em geral foi adiantada em razão do atual cenário da pandemia no Uruguai, o pior desde os primeiros registros de covid-19 no país.
“Vimos que estamos muito ameaçados pelo aumento de casos de covid-19, por isso preferimos ampliar o horizonte de vacinados”, diz o infectologista uruguaio Eduardo Savio Larriera, coordenador do comitê de imunizações da Associação Pan-americana de Infectologia.
Com o avanço da vacinação, o Uruguai tem registrado constantes quedas diárias de novos casos e mortes pela covid-19. O sistema de saúde local comemora as quedas nos nível de ocupação de UTIs desde o início da pandemia.
De acordo com Larriera, a imunização na região da fronteira com o Brasil foi considerada uma ação-chave no plano de imunização uruguaio. Um dos principais temores, segundo ele, é a atual situação no Rio Grande do Sul, que enfrenta o período grave da pandemia até o momento e está com o sistema de saúde sobrecarregado.
Filho de uma uruguaia, Abdel é um exemplo de doble chapa, como são chamados na região os brasileiros descendentes de uruguaios que têm dupla cidadania.
Assim como ele, brasileiros com mais de 18 anos e que possuem cidadania uruguaia podem ser imunizados contra o novo coronavírus no país vizinho — não é necessário ser profissional de saúde ou fazer parte de algum outro grupo prioritário.
“Foi fascinante, uma surpresa muito boa. Não esperava ser vacinado tão rápido, porque estava aguardando no Brasil, onde demoraria muito, muito mesmo”, afirma o jovem.
Enquanto o Brasil caminha a passos lentos na imunização contra a covid-19, o Uruguai tem avançado rapidamente na imunização de seus habitantes. O país vizinho planeja vacinar cerca de 70% de seus quase 3,5 milhões de moradores até o fim do primeiro semestre deste ano.
Diversos moradores de Santana do Livramento no Brasil têm se vacinado em Rivera, no Uruguai. Na cidade brasileira, de cerca de 76 mil habitantes, muitos moradores têm dupla cidadania.
Há também vários uruguaios que vivem no Brasil e foram ao país de origem para serem imunizados. Brasileiros que trabalham no Uruguai também estão sendo vacinados lá.
A vacinação na fronteira brasileira é considerada fundamental pelas autoridades uruguaias, em virtude do atual cenário da pandemia no Brasil, com sucessivos recordes de mortes e novos casos.
